User's Survival Guide
I cannot find my project files in Windows Explorer! - on
no account try moving Allplan project files around using MS Windows Explorer
except as a last resort and with expert guidance - simply copying these files
back in will NOT work as a method of restoring lost projects.
- On most installations
the data files are within a 'nem' folder in the
root directory of the hard disk drive specified for data at installation (there
is another 'nem' file on the system drive for the actual executable files).
- Within this
folder is another called 'Allplan' and within
that are 3 folders called 'HLP', 'PRJ'
and 'STD'. Obviously 'PRJ'
holds your projects.
- If you look
within 'PRJ' you will see numbered files of the
sort 'n00000003.prj, n00000004.prj' -Note: Allplan
keeps track of these!!! - filename numbers increment with each new
project but deleted ones are not reused.
You can back up these files but restoring them is far from straightforward
- best to use the proper backup and restore from the Services FT16 application.
- If you create
new symbols they seem to be stored within the 'STD'
folder along with the provided standard symbols. Again the files and supporting
files are just numbers however sorting them by date (click on the column heading
in the rh window of MS Explorer) should bring your files to the top of the
list allowing backup copies to be made. Unlike projects (above) copying back
these files seems to work OK. There is an option within the normal backup
procedure outlined above to backup the 'standard' file but it is quite large
and most of it is just the installed files. There is probably a way to create
your own folder to keep symbols in but I have not got round to doing it.
