National Park Planning Officers

Professionals who are employed by the National Park
They.....

Often on the receiving end of ill-informed comment by the professions, public and their own employers it can be a thankless task being a Lake District National Park Planning Officer. Most of the public within the Park (and outside come to that) do not realise that the planning officers have to operate within a closely defined set of policies. It is sometimes hard to see it but there is a purpose behind decisions. Have a look at the 'Local Plan' (now downloadable free from LDNPA website - start top left of front page) a widely ignored document (by the public) that sets out policies on all sorts of subjects from quarries to barn conversions. These have been through extensive public consultation but the implications escape most people until they find they cannot build a retirement bungalow in their garden or whatever!
